Aster Lane
A lovely flower shop from start to finish, this project was an extreme exercise in value engineering. Our original direction from the client included a more than healthy budget and opulent design inspiration for “The Streets of Old Paris”. The client wanted the customer side of the store to feel like you were outside, which I accomplished with a detailed crown molding ceiling inset with a sky wallcovering, limestone floor tiles, and a faux storefront leading to the back, complete with decorative windows, and an ornate “apartment door” that led to the bathroom. Of all my projects at Arrow B, Aster Lane was the one I had the most control over and I enjoyed designing every piece of it from the layout to the finishes, lighting, and every piece of trim. After receiving the permit with no architectural comments from the building department and the budget from the contractor that landed exactly within my estimated range, we received the unfortunate news that the funding was cut. Just how much wasn’t clear at the beginning so I spent several months doing various versions of stripped-back designs. It took a long time to get clear direction from the divided client team but eventually, we arrived at a design that cut the budget down by 35%. The final design was disappointing in some ways after having the opportunity to work on such an interesting project however it still ended up beautiful. The flower shop is now loved by both the client and their customers.
