Broadway collective
My second office project was similar in many ways to 1823 Ford. It was an existing building that we were doing some exterior changes to, and the inside was a total gut job with a new layout for separate rentable offices as well as space for the client’s offices. The difference was, that the only exterior changes were in the color scheme and the client made all interior design selections so there were fewer details to coordinate. I had the opportunity to work on the layout more than on my first office project and it was a fun challenge fitting in the quantity of offices that the client required. Despite the building being a rectangle, there were a few quirks to the structural layout and street face of the building that made for a bit of a challenge at times. We were less involved in the construction process after the permit was in hand but a few unique challenges still came up that we had to work with the contractor to solve. I learned a lot about the importance of working with a general contractor and subcontractors who are experienced in commercial projects. The contractor the client selected specialized in residential work and we ran into several issues because of the difference in expertise. Despite the complications, the client and the community loved the completed project.
